Welcome to the IHSA's Official Licensing Center. Please read these instructions carefully.
All IHSA Officials licenses are for a period of one school year, and each school year runs from July 1st through the following June 30th. Individuals can license for any sport at any time during a school year period, but an individual will need to license again when the licensing period opens for the next school year. For example, an individual who registers and licenses as a baseball official with the IHSA on February 1, 2023, is licensing for the 2022-23 school year and will need to renew that license a few months later when the licensing period opens up for the 2023-24 school year. Individuals will be reminded of this again later in the registration process when specific sports for licensing are selected. Once an official has completed all the necessary requirements (pay registration fee, have background check completed, successfully complete both the state-required concussion training and the IHSA Hate Speech and Harassment program, and successfully complete the Part 1 exam in all sports in which the person wishes to license), he/she/they will display in the IHSA Officials Directory and be eligible to officiate.
In this area you may apply to become an official, renew your officiating licenses, or apply for additional sport licenses.
The annual fee is $70 for the first sport, $0 for the second sport, and $10 for each additional sport. These fees are not refundable. All payments in the Official Licensing Center are received electronically. The IHSA accepts all major credit or debit cards. Credit card information is passed through a secure server, is not stored, and will not be shared with any other entity.
If you do not have a credit or debit card, you should continue with the process, print out the completed order form at the end, and then mail it with your personal check or money order to the IHSA Officials Department.
Renewal Period
This is the annual license renewal period, which runs from May 1 to June 30. Your transaction today will apply to the upcoming 2023-24 school term. If you wait until after the June 30 deadline to renew your license, you will be charged a late penalty of $30.
Officials Conference
After you have completed your renewal information, you will be given an opportunity to register for the Annual Officials Conference in July. If you wish to register for the conference, the fee will be added to your transaction.
Please view the 2022-23 IHSA Officials Handbook for the requirements and expectations of an IHSA licensed official.
If you have a question about this process, please contact the IHSA Officials Department.
